Philippines are one of the most sought after tourism destinations of south East Asia. The reason is very simple- it has many beautiful locations where people would love to come and enjoy their holidays. The country has many hotspots, ranging from the historical to the natural. The country's most popular attractions feature mostly nature spots, but nothing should stop you from visiting a city as historical as Manila.

Manila is the official capital of the Philippines and forms park of the namesake of the metropolitan area surrounding it, Metro Manila, which is home to about twenty million people. Malacanang Palace, located along the length of the Pasig River, is the symbol of power in the Philippines, serving as the formal residence of the Philippine President. Various institutions, some dating back to the country's colonial era, are still standing today in old Manila.

Philippines were a Spanish colony and the influence of Spanish culture is visible even in modern day Philippines. The influence of American culture is also quite prevalent in modern day Philippines. The Filipinos have stuck to their cultural roots yet they are catching up with rapid modernization. This is quite evident when you visit the walled city of Intramuros and notice the passing buses and jeepneys just outside the streets.

Meanwhile, the city also serves as a bastion of education in the Philippines. The Manila campus of the University of the Philippines serves as the country's center for medical education. Then there is the University of Santo Tomas, established in 1611, considered to be the oldest existing university in Asia.

Manila is quite popular for its picturesque sunset. If you want to enjoy the beautiful sunset of Manila then you should visit the Manila Bay walk. One can see a large number of Filipinos taking a stroll down the bay and others indulging in games like chess and skateboarding.

A trip to the Philippines just won't be complete without visiting Manila. It all starts here.
